Laurence Levasseur

Contemporary Dance
France

As an instructor and choreographer Laurence worked for seven years with Mathilde Monnier and her Compagnie at the Centre Chorégraphique National in Montpellier. In 1998 she founded her own Compagnie Sweet Move. Laurence works regularly at the Centre National des Arts du Cirque in Châlons-en-Champagne and at the National Circus School in Rosny-sous-Bois. Since 2000, in align with current international political trends, she has been dedicated to choreography projects in Russia, Middle Asia, and Africa. Today she is a highly respected French ambassador of dance in Middle Asia. In 2004, she renamed her Compagnie LûlîStan (Terre Lûlî = gypsies of Middle Asia). She is also a successful actress and painter and brings her experience from these art forms into her dance work. “Give each participant the faith in their own body, give every movement a soul” – that is the primary objective of her instruction.

The combination of Limón and Cunningham yields for her a harmonic synthesis, that activates all of the traits and abilities of each individual body, allowing everyone to optimally employ and implement their energy. ”I find it important to convey that the body should be challenged but never exhausted”.

Laurence Levasseur was at the Tanzfestival Bielefeld 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2011.
