James Carlès

Modern Dance
Cameroon/France

Educated as an agricultural engineer, his first initiation to dance came at the Alvin Alley American Dance Center in New York. Ever since, he has danced, choreographed, and instructed all over the world. He founded his own company and training centre in Toulouse, where he also directs the renowned dance festival Festival Danses et Continents Noirs.

James is an internationally recognised dance instructor for Modern Dance. His choreographic work is based on confronting African Dance with European Dance. Flow, shape, and the speed of the movements in dance are especially important to him. The flexibility of all parts of the body also plays a big role in his classes.

James Carlès was in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2011 at the Tanzfestival Bielefeld.
